Amanda Bynes files to end conservatorship of nearly 10 years following Britney's victory

Amanda Bynes has reportedly filed to end her conservatorship after nearly ten years.

The Hollywood actress, 35, has been under a long-running conservatorship which has seen her mother Lynn act as her legal conservator for nine years.

It comes following the legal success of Britney Spears who managed to break free from her own conservatorship last November.

Bynes filed court documents to end her conservatorship on Wednesday (February 23) – in a petition submitted at the Ventura County Superior Court in California – Page Six reported.

The outlet revealed Amanda asked judges to terminate the conservatorship of her person and estate, and filed a ‘capacity declaration’ on Tuesday.

According to her attorney, Amanda has requested for her conservatorship to end as she feels her condition has “improved” and she no longer needs “the protection of the court”.

A court hearing has been scheduled for March 22.

The former Nickelodeon child star’s legal representative, David A. Esquibias, issued a statement to People magazine on Friday.

He said: “Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary.”

Amanda was placed under her nine-year conservatorship in August 2013 – and the legal agreement handed mother Lynn the control of her financial, medical and personal affairs.

Her mother stepped in after her daughter went into hospital under a 72-hour mental-health evaluation hold, having allegedly started a fire in somebody’s driveway.

Lynn was granted a temporary conservatorship in August – before paperwork was filed to continue it until August 2020.

In November 2014, Amanda announced she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder – and she went on to check into mental health facilities in following years.

In 2018, Bynes revealed she had been sober for four years with the help of her parents, and apologised for what she previously said on Twitter during her years of substance issues.

She wrote: “I’m really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said. I can’t turn back time but if I could, I would. And I’m so sorry to whoever I hurt and whoever I lied about because it truly eats away at me.”

Speaking to Good Morning America, she admitted to taking cocaine and MDMA, but said she used Adderal, ADHD medicine, the most.
