Carol Kirkwood replaced on BBC Breakfast by co-star in major show shake-up

Carol Kirkwood was missing from the latest edition of BBC Breakfast.

The 60-year-old weather presenter usually tells viewers the upcoming forecast on the morning show.

However, her co-star Sarah Keith-Lucas presented the latest weather news on Monday’s (November 28) episode.

Jon Kay told viewers that Sarah will be on hand to present the weather for the “next few days” but didn’t mention Carol’s absence from the show.

It comes after things turned awkward when host Ben Thompson confused Sarah and Carol earlier this month.

In the first few minutes of the show they told viewers about what was coming up on the programme before getting an update on the weather.

Ben said: “Let’s check in with Carol on what the weather is doing, Good morning to you Carol!”

Ben said: “Oh it’s Sarah indeed!” as his co-star Nina Warhurst joked: “Carol, you’ve changed!”

A panicked Ben apologised and Sarah said with a laugh: “A surprise Carol today!”

Sarah then launched into her weather report, and when she was finished Ben apologised again.

He said: “I’m so sorry Sarah!, I hadn’t turned to look at the screen and there you are of course!

“Nice to have you with us this morning and I’m sorry to call you Carol!”

Sarah replied with a laugh: “I’ll forgive you. Just this once.”

Carol did the worm live on air last week.

She was presenting the weather segment as usual on Wednesday (November 23) but things took a bizarre turn.

The former Strictly contestant was in the BBC studio to give the forecast after an intro from Jon and Sally.

Carol said: “It will be a little bit wet and windy in the south, showers in the North. Back to you, Sally and Jon.”

Jon said: “Ah, thank you Carol. You know, Carol, I was just thinking? Yesterday, Sally and I, we did the worm – the Jack Grealish worm – you haven’t done the worm yet.”

Carol then gave it a bash. “Perfect,” Jon replied, adding: “That’s definitely a celebration now!” Sally commented: “Yours was definitely better than ours.”

Jon clapped and told her “well done.” The pair introduced Ashley Banjo, from Diversity, for an interview and he gave his verdict on Carol’s moves.
