Coronation Street fans rejoice as familiar face unexpectedly leaves ITV cobbles

Fans of Coronation Street were jumping for joy during the latest episode after they realised Summer Spellman departed from the show unexpectedly.

Things became all too much for Summer on Friday night (December 16) after her guardian Billy Mayhew found out about Mike and Esther’s plans to buy her baby from her.

Although the plan is no longer in motion due to Summer’s miscarriage, Billy was still upset with the married couple as they demanded for Summer and her boyfriend Aaron to return their £10,000.

Billy was disgusted by the proposal and threatened to go to the police, leaving Summer distraught.

But when Billy changed his mind and went to see Summer, Aaron informed her that she was nowhere to be found and she doesn’t want anyone to look for her.

Fans were happy Summer was gone

Despite the startling news, fans were joyous over Summer’s disappearance and headed over to Twitter to share their views.

One Corrie spectator wrote: “Summer has gone!! Yay!”

Another happy viewer said: “Has Christmas come early? Summer’s Run away?”

A third penned: “Hope the #Corrie producers see the reaction over Summer ‘going away’ and realise that us viewers have had enough of the character and her constant storylines.”

Meanwhile a fourth added: “I usually hate it when Summer’s gone, but in this case I’ll rejoice.”

Aaron realised that Summer had gone and left a note

Although she decided to depart from the famous cobbles unexpectedly, Aaron and Billy firmly believe that Summer went to stay with Mike and Esther.

But some viewers were also rather annoyed that Billy didn’t stick to his decision and go to the police to report Mike and Esther.

Jumping back onto Twitter, frustrated fans shared their opinions on this too.

One annoyed viewer said: “You’ve failed, Billy. You’ve raised a cash for baby-maker.”

Fans thought Billy should have reported the issue to the police

Meanwhile another echoed: “Billy is a failure.”

Although Corrie spectators are happy Summer is gone, actress Harriet Bibby who plays the teen said there is still a lot more that awaits the troubled character.

She said: “She’s not having a good time, I think obviously this storyline (Mike/ Esther/ Summer’s pregnancy) is long from finished, lots of twists and turns coming.”

She added: “Personally, I’d like to see her having a bit more fun with her mates, like they have all just moved in to a flat together.”
