Coronation Street’s Gary Windass could finally get his comeuppance for the murder of Rick Neelan as a body is discovered three years after his death.
Forthcoming scenes of the ITV soap are likely to see the reformed villain caught in a compromising position as pictures from the Weatherfield set show filming of a tense sequence.
Gary (Mikey North) can be seen attempting to break into a construction site for the new Weatherfield County FC ground.
Wearing a black hoodie and gloves, the former loan shark is soon disturbed by a security guard and forced to walk away.
In later scenes, the building site is descended upon by a number of police officers.
Forensic teams in white boiler suits can also be seen scoping the area.
A body has been found but who does it belong to?
One likely candidate is the missing in action Rick Neelan (Greg Wood).
Corrie fans saw Gary murder his former boss in June 2019 with a rock in a vicious graveside battle.
He later buried Rick’s body in a shallow grave in the woods.
Gary has since confided in his partner Maria (Samia Longchambon) and ex Sarah Barlow (Tina O’Brien) about the murder but has so far escaped justice for the crime.
Having pretended Rick went on the run, the double murderer has been working hard to reform his life.
He has even gone so far as to take in Rick’s daughter Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) following the youngster’s release from prison – with Kelly still blissfully unaware that Gary murdered her father.
The recent arrival of Kelly’s mother Laura (Kel Allen) looks set to complicate matters.
Following her arrival in Weatherfield, the terminally ill newcomer becomes determined to get to the bottom of what happened to her ex Rick.
Hiring a private detective, Laura forces Gary to answer pressing questions about Rick’s whereabouts – and with a body later discovered, it seems Gary’s time could finally be up.
Coronation Street airs on ITV.
