Darius Campbell Danesh was reportedly weeks away from appearing on a special Pop Idol reunion show when he was found dead at 41 in his US home last week.
On Tuesday (August 16), his family announced the singer’s death after he was found unresponsive at his home in Rochester, Minnesota while the cause of his death continues to remain a mystery.
The beloved singer, 41, won the hearts of the nation when he appeared on the ITV talent show back in 2002 when he landed in third place behind Gareth Gates and Will Young.

Now a source has told The Sun that the famed finalist had been “really excited” at the prospect of returning for a Pop Idol reunion.
A pal close to the late singer told the publication: “He was really excited about the reunion and was in talks with producers to appear on it. They were looking at getting filming started around the end of September.
“It was going to be an hour-and-a-half long special hosted by Ant and Dec and full of nostalgia for the millions of Pop Idol fans.
“I spoke to Darius recently and he was in good spirits – he was his usual happy self.”
Daily Star have reached out to ITV for a comment.
As the devastating news hit the headlines, his famous friends including Gareth Gates and Simon Cowell took to social media to share an emotional tribute to the star online.
Fellow finalist Gareth penned shared a sweet throwback snap of himself beside the singer as he paid tribute to his “big brother” in full view of his 75,000 followers.
He penned: “I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken.
“Darius took me under his wing during out time in Pop Idol, like a big brother; always looking out for me and for that I thank you my friend.
“I will miss our chats. He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room. Goodbye my friend. Forever in my heart.”

X Factor judge Simon Cowell later joined in with an emotional post dedicated to the Scottish singer’s grieving family.
He wrote: “I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well. He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with.
“His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”
