EastEnders star Barbara Smith has paid tribute to her mother after she tragically passed away.
The actress – best known as Dana Monroe on the hit BBC soap – admitted feeling “heartbroken” as she shared an emotional post on Instagram dedicated to her mum, Alice, following her death on Wednesday (November 9).
Barbara, 25, added a photo of her mum in her youth to the upload, captioning the image with tear-inducing words about their lives together as she confessed the “unimaginable” had happened.

She wrote: “Yesterday, the unimaginable happened. I lost the best friend I could ever ask for – my extraordinary mum, Alice. From our love of cinema and music to our passionate political views, you couldn’t find a closer mother and daughter.
“We lived in a small flat with only each other for company for the majority of my life. My heart is broken, and will remain broken until the end of time.
“When she came home before she lived out her final days in a hospice, she told me that telling me she loved me to the moon and back was too cliche, so she decided on telling me she loves me to Venus and back.
“Well mum, I love you to Venus and back. And I hope wherever you are, I get the privilege of seeing you again someday.”
Barbara’s former co-stars rushed to share their condolences with her in the comments section with Bernie Taylor actress Clair Norris offering: “Sending you so much love!”
Isaac Baptiste star Stevie Basula wrote “big big love”, with Honey Mitchell actress Emma Barton and Iqra Ahmed star Priya Davdra both showing their support by posting love heart emojis in the comments.
Barbara bowed out of her role as Bobby Beale’s ex-girlfriend Dana earlier this year when the character headed off to university after a turbulent gap year following her brother Aaron Monroe’s terrorism conviction where she fell out of love with Bobby and began sleeping with his brother Peter Beale.
The actress starred in 84 episodes of EastEnders from when she joined the cast in 2019 up until her September 2022 departure.
