Emmerdale actor Dean Andrews has married into the Tate family and this week teams up with new wife Kim for some classic Home Farm dodgy business.
Dean Andrews first appeared in Emmerdale as Will Taylor in April 2019 – but he had a secret singing career for over two decades, before landing his first acting role.
Born on August 6, 1963 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, the actor nicknamed “Deano” was given his first acting parts by renowned film maker Ken Loach in the 2001 film The Navigators.

Before walking onto the Emmerdale set however, Andrews starred in rival soap EastEnders as Dean in 2002, a role he also reprised in the tv film EastEnders: Ricky & Bianca in the same year.
Since then he has also starred in programmes including 2003’s Clocking Off, Casualty, Shameless, The Street and Silent Witness.
In 2013 he also played Pete Lewis in the tv series Being Eileen, and Robbie in Last Tango in Halifax from 2012 to 2016.
However, Dean is best known for his role as outspoken DS Ray Carling, in the hit BBC television series Life on Mars.
He starred in the time travelling crime programme, alongside actors John Simm and Philip Glennister, from 2006 to 2007 and reprised the role in the sequel Ashes to Ashes alongside Keeley Hawes, from 2008 to 2010.
Andrews regularly shares photos of his time on set with the cast of both series, including throwbacks to Philip Glennister, Marshall Lancaster and himself performing a parody of Billy Joel’s Uptown Girl in series 3 of Ashes to Ashes.
In another photo, Andrews and co-star Monseratt Lambard are pictured on set with 80s Spandau Ballet legend Tony Hadley, while in another he and co-star Marshall Lancaster are dressed up on set as Superman and James Bond as part of a fancy dress party in an Ashes to Ashes storyline.
One episode of Ashes to Ashes also showed off Andrews’ talent for singing, a passion that dates back to long before he was an actor.
For 20 years, he worked on cruise ships and in clubs as a singer and in a throwback photo on his Instagram in 2020, Andrews shared a photo of one of his album covers from 1986.
The cover featured a young Andrews posing on the cover of You to Me are Everything, in black trousers and a beige leather jacket.
He also shared throwback photos from 1986 of him with a mullet haircut while singing at a holiday camp, with fans commenting on the photo saying “an impressive mullet you have there”.
When he isn’t on our TV screens, Andrews is a supporter of Rotherham football club and earlier in the year, took part in a charity bike ride to raise money for Rotherham Hospice.
He is married to wife Helen Bowen-Green and has two children, along with granddaughter Ida-Rae, who was born in August of this year.
Looking to the future, the actor also revealed on an episode of This Morning in 2020 that there is a possibility his Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes character DS Ray Carling may be making a come back, saying: “There’s a very, very good chance of that happening.
“The writers Matt Graham and Ashley Pharoah are in the process of writing four or five episodes, and getting everybody back together who wants to come back.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV
