Hugh Grant swipes at upcoming Prince Andrew movie as he's tipped for lead role

Hugh Grant is reportedly set to play Prince Andrew in a new movie – but it seems the star has no interest.

According to Deadline, the 61 year-old actor could play the new disgraced Duke Of York in a new movie, that’s set to tell the tale of how the BBC obtained the now famous Newsnight interview.

Prince Andrew made headlines around the world when the bomnbshell interview aired on television screen which saw His Royal Highness speak about his alleged friendship with deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as well as his friendship with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell

It’s been reported the former Bridget Jones Diary star is allegedly on the wish-list of unconfirmed names for the project whilst acclaimed screenwriter Peter Moffatt is reported to write the ‘Scoop’ screenplay for Lighthouse Film & Television, a production company.

However the British Actor has since poured cold water on the prospect, taking to twitter writing: “No I’m not. Never heard of it.”

The story comes amid the release of the new book ‘Scoops: Behind The Scenes Of The BBC’s Most Shocking Interviews’ written by esteemed producer Sam McAlister.

Whilst the former criminal barrister turned television producer shared an insight into the famous car-crash interview.

The Duke of York sat down with news anchor Emily Maitilis on November 14, 2019, to discuss his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein as well as his friendship with now convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

She wrote: “I couldn’t look at anyone, I could barely believe his people hadn’t stopped the interview. I would have, despite the consequences.”

When asking Andrew’s press secretary, Amanda Thirsk how she believed the interview went, she responded: “Wasn’t he wonderful!”.

And the producer recently took to social media with excitement to announce the news of the book adaptation.

She tweeted: “So here’s some news… can’t actually breathe with the excitement!!!! #Scoops”

Adding: “So…. Who should play me?”

The Duke of York sat down with news anchor Emily Maitilis on November 14, 2019, to discuss his friendship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein as well as his friendship with now convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell.

Prince Andrew vehemently denies all allegations of wrongdoing after he had previously been accused of having sex with Virginia Giuffre when she was 17.

After the disastrous interview aired, Prince Andrew took the decision to step back from Royal Duties for the “foreseeable future”.

The prince recently settled out of court with Virginia Giuffre for a figure estimated to be around £12million and this is without any admission of guilt.

But the car crash interview was such a disaster for the prince, His Royal Highness took the decision to step back from Royal Duties for the “foreseeable future” and he was noticeably absent from celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last month.

The fallout from the interview has also seen various members of the royal family distance themselves from the disgraced prince with Prince William reportedly demanding the Queen refuse all requests for The Duke Of York to return to Royal life.
