Strictly's Helen Skelton shows off foot injury as she claims her 'feet are on fire'

Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton has shared a picture of her ankles after she sustained some kind of “injury”.

The former Blue Peter presenter showed her ankles covered by a large pack of frozen garden peas as she played with some young children.

She wrote: “Feet on fire,” as she sat on the carpet wearing leggings.

Skelton did not clarify whether something happened during rehearsals for the BBC dance competition, but using frozen peas is a common method used to soothe some forms of injury.

This would not be the first time the contestant has struggled with an injury as she hurt herself during the early stages of the show.

She previously spoke to Ranvir Singh, who stood in for Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled show, about her painful ankles.

The Countryfile star explained: “My ankles are fine, but my knees are bruised to high heaven because we do a few tricks and obviously they take a bit of practice. You know, it’s a fine line between brave and stupid, so I go for it with the tricks and yeah, there’s been a few falls!”

Skelton has had her fair share of physical struggles along with mental hurdles as she dealt with stage fright during the early weeks.

Helen admitted that she was once so overwhelmed with stage fright she fled through a fire escape and was left in tears before her first Strictly appearance.

Her dance partner Gorka Marquez had to gently persuade her to come back – but luckily Helen is now “really enjoying” her time on the show.

Helen said: “I had a little cry. I’m normally cool, calm and collected. I got on the dance floor and they said: ‘When the audience come in…’ and I went: ‘Oh crikey, yeah.’ There’s people.”

She continued: “I was like: ‘There’s a fire door there, I can get out of it,’ and I did. Gorka found me and said: ‘What are you doing?’ I said: ‘Just having a minute.’ I literally ran. It was like when I did Celeb SAS, I tried to escape that.”

The presenter emphasised that she “didn’t want to sound ungrateful,” but branded the experience “very weird” as she had to “wave goodbye to personal space”.
