Vivienne Westwood and Queen's eery connection after she defaced iconic image of monarch

Vivienne Westwood, who passed away aged 81, was known for her punk persona and anti-establishment attitude, which led her to produce shocking images of the Queen during her career.

She once produced a shirt that defaced an image of Queen Elizabeth, whichthen became an icon for the British punk movement.

The picture showed the monarch with safety pins over her mouth, used to keep it shut, while other versions showed Queen Elizabeth with swastikas over her eyes and newspaper letters used to imitate a hostage letter.

Westwood shared a common title with the monarch as she was appointed the ultimate Queen of Punk due to her involvement in the movement.

She was considered a pioneer of the British punk movement in terms of fashion and was close with Malcolm McLaren, the manager of the Sex Pistols.

The pair entered a relationship and opened SEX, a boutique in King’s Road, London that opened from 1974 to 1976.

Although it was only open for a short time, it became an iconic staple of punk culture and a hangout for anyone and everyone involved in the subculture.

Inside the store was decorated graffiti, chicken wire, rubber curtains and red carpets where they sold fetish and bondage wear.

Notable patrons of the shop include punk icons such as the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie Sioux and Adam Ant.

Despite her previous projects that defaced Queen Elizabeth’s image, Vivienne was chosen as one of the most significant people during Elizabeth II’s reign in 2022.
