Ed Sheeran eyes Bob Dylan collaboration – but he won’t knock on his hero’s door

Ed Sheeran is targeting a collab with Bob Dylan, but he won’t be knock, knock, knockin’ on Dylan’s door for it.

Instead Ed hopes to become friends with the 82-year-old folk legend before they can work together. Asked about his heroes Ed revealed: “I’ve met them all, apart from Dylan … but if you meet Bob Dylan prematurely… I don’t want the picture thing. My rule was always I am never going to seek someone out to meet them, I’m going to wait for them to meet me.”

Ed’s become pals with many greats including Eminem, for who he bided his time. Ed said: “I wanted him to be like, ‘I like your stuff’. I waited and after four years he said, ‘we should do a song’ and we became like friends.” The same happened to Ed with childhood inspiration Damien Rice, who he eventually befriended in Iceland: “We went on a hike and got in a hot pool… this is why I’ve waited, it was a nice interaction.”

Hard to imagine Bob Dylan in a hot tub with anyone, but Ed does seem to get interest from all sorts of legends, including Van Morrison. Ed recalled: “He doorstepped me at my hotel. I’d just made Thinking Out Loud and I remember my gran came to the gig and we had a lot of whisky, as you do.

“I went to bed at 4 in the morning and I remember getting this phone call at six and the front desk saying, ‘Van Morrison is here, he wants to have breakfast with you’. I thought they were taking the p***. It was really surreal because I was still drunk but he’s really sweet.”

Ed has just dropped a new trailer for his upcoming Fan Living Room Sessions recorded in fans’ houses.
