Tyler Christopher has died at the age of 50, his co-star has confirmed.
The US actor, who played Nikolas Cassadine in medical drama General Hospital from 1996 until 2016, passed away in his San Diego apartment. His General Hospital co-star Maurice Benard revealed the news to social media on Tuesday (October 31).
In a statement, he said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”
He went on explain how the Christopher was open about his struggles with alcohol and bipolar depression, and how he was an “advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment”. “We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father,” he added.
Christopher was married to Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria from 2002 until 2004. The pair both went on to find love again after their marriage broke down.
Tyler tied the knot with ESPN star Brienne Pedigo from 2008 until 2021. They welcomed two children – their son Greysun James, 10, and daughter Boheme, 4. Eva is now married to Mexican businessman José Antonio “Pepe” Bastón Patiño, having tied the knot with him in 2016.
Christopher appeared in a total of 1,153 episodes of General Hospital between 1996 and 2016. During his time on the series, he got four daytime Emmy nominations and bagged the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama series.

He later played Stefan DiMera in hit US soap Days of Our Lives from 2018 until 2019. He starred in a total of 159 episodes.
