She said: “I did actually have a stalker. I was at the International Somali Awards and he had broken in by pretending he was my brother and literally got brought to my table.

“I was like, ‘Who are you?’. I hugged him because I assumed I’d already met him. I was like, ‘How come you are here?’

“He was like, ‘I have come to see you’. It got a bit weird. He came to a few other things I did.”

Maya later discovered her stalker had been following her movements on social media.

She said: “In my old house I was quite bad. I would Snapchat walking down the road, so if you knew that road, you would be able to clock.

“He had DMd my friend who I lived with at the time, saying, ‘I am near your house.”

Maya’s ordeal, which happened when she was in her early 20s, made her more wary about the dangers of being in showbiz.

She said: “After that I became more careful. It can happen to everyone. You might not be online and you can have a stalker.

“Everyone should be careful with what you are posting.”

Maya, 28, is now more of a target for crazed fans after becoming a household name.

The Bristol-born beauty is being watched by millions of viewers on Love Island after taking over from Laura Whitmore, who hosted the show since 2020.

Laura announced she was stepping down after the summer series last year and fans immediately called for Maya to step in as her replacement – and they haven’t been disappointed.

After an incredible start to the series, TV insiders are now tipping her to become one of the biggest stars on the box.
