Strictly legend 'joins Alan Carr in race to replace David Walliams as BGT judge'

Bruno Tonioli is reportedly the latest front runner to replace David Walliams on the next series of Britain’s Got Talent.

The former Strictly Come Dancing judge is thought to have joined the race to bag the spare seat on the BGT judging panel.

Alan Carr was first rumoured to be David’s replacement after telly bosses decided he would be the perfect addition to the team.

However, the comedian could be beaten to the job by 67-year-old Bruno who left the glitzy BBC One dancing show back in 2022 after 18 years.

A TV insider said: “Signing up Bruno would be seen as a huge coup for Simon as he was always seen as a favourite on Strictly with his ostentatious style.

“Bringing some of that hilarious magic across to BGT would help fill the big shoes left behind by comic David.

“Although his background is almost entirely in dance, that has seen him work with a range of artists involved in West End shows as well as pop star’s videos, so he would bring a wealth of experience.”

The insider, speaking to Mirror, claimed that signing Bruno would be a “snub” to Simon’s “rivals” from back in the day.

“This would have seen him take not one but two judges from them, as he already has former Strictly star Alesha Dixon on the panel,” they added.

Earlier today, it was reported that Alan is set to replace David as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent, according to reports.

A source close to the ITV series has revealed to the Daily Mail: “Alan is hilarious but also kind. He tells a mean joke but he is also soft in the middle.

“The bosses are already excited about how wonderful he will be with the contestants. He will complement the panel so well too, he is really close friends with Amanda and he has known Simon and Alesha for years too.

“Everyone involved in the show is so excited and they can’t wait to get started,” they teased.

Auditions for the next series of BGT are set to take place in just two weeks time as executives at both ITV.

The production company Fremantle have been desperately searching for their new judge since it was decided he would step down two months ago.

It was previously reported back in November that Walliams stood down from his judging role after ten years on the show, however some sources close to the show claimed the star “jumped before he was pushed”.

His exit came after he described an elderly contestant as a c**t and made horrific remarks about a woman who took part on the show.

Daily Star has reached out to ITV for a comment.
