One X Factor legend nearly lost his life after eating some dodgy Chinese takeaway, and had to be rushed to A&E.
Christopher Maloney first rose to fame in 2012 when he auditioned for the ninth series of Simon Cowell’s hit ITV talent show, eventually finishing third.
He particularly impressed head judge Gary Barlow, who begged him during his audition: “How the hell have you kept that voice hidden until now?”

As well as a successful pantomime career after the show, Christopher also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.
But he has been forced to step back from the spotlight following a frightening incident in which he fell seriously ill, back in December 2019.
The star told the Liverpool Echo he ordered crispy duck and pancakes from a Chinese takeaway to celebrate his 42nd birthday, but it all went wrong as the food was “contaminated with Campylobacter E-Coli – the worst food poisoning you could contract from poultry”.
Christopher says the strain “can kill, and it nearly did”, as he had “no words to explain the pain”.
Despite his illness, Christopher forged ahead with his booked shows for the season, but confessed to the publication: “Over that time I could only manage to eat one slice of pineapple and two small sips of water over two weeks.”
Things went from bad to worse when Christopher arrived home and collapsed on the street outside his mum’s house. She quickly called an ambulance, and Christopher spent two weeks in the intensive care unit and then another two weeks in a separate ward.
“Tests, scans, ultrasounds, X-rays – you name it, I had it. I deteriorated so much the senior doctors wanted to remove my colon,” he said.

Though the surgery wasn’t performed in the end, Christopher says he is now living with life-changing illnesses like ulcerated colitis, arthritis and digestive issues.
He confessed to the publication: “I had to take time out as I’ve been absolutely shattered.”
He’s thankfully on the mend, and kicked off his An Evening With tour last month in Europe. The star will also play the role of Captain Hook at Stourbridge Town Hall panto, before appearing in Beauty and the Beast in Runcorn later this year.
