BBC Breakfast star breaks social media silence after admitting ‘enough was enough’

One of BBC Breakfast ‘s most beloved stars has returned to social media after disappearing for weeks.

Nina Warhurst, 43, broke her silence on her social media accounts after she admitted she needed to go on a hiatus from the addiction. Warhurst admitted that she needed to take some time away from her Instagram in a post to her story on March 31, saying that she loves the platform “a bit too much” as she is “scrolling all the time”.

As well as this, she also confessed that she had started to fall down the rabbit hole of “catching up on people’s stories” and “checking for likes”. Recognising it was beginning to eat her up, the TV star insisted that “enough was enough” and she deleted the app from her phone.

However, just two weeks later from her Instagram post, Warhurst was seen on one of her other social media accounts. Reaching out to her followers on Twitter, Nina asked for some advice for an upcoming trip she was gearing up for.

“Afternoon all,” she penned. “Breaking my non-work social media hiatus to ask for recommendations for a girls’* weekend in the fine city of Birmingham.”

She had already ticked off a number of things they wanted to do already, including “cocktails, curries, cosy pubs and interesting wanders”. She also said she wanted nothing that involved “having to shout or queue at dinner”.

To finish off her post, she cheekily added, addressing the asterisk in her initial question: “(*Ok, we’re 43 but were girls when we met, so).” However, despite this, Nina has committed to staying off social media for anything other than work purposes as she is forced to maintain a presence due to her job as a TV presenter.

When she announced her move away from her platforms, she posted a heart-warming pic of her with baby Nance as the 9-month old cuddled into her mum. She took to the caption with an open statement to let her followers know she would be gone for a while: “TTFN.

“Signing off from Insta for a few weeks,” Nina wrote. “I *love* this site – I don’t take myself, or the apparently perfect lives of others, too seriously.

“I howl laughing every day from a scarily accurate meme. I connect with lovely people who I don’t get to see IRL and there are loads of cats and babies.”

She continued: “Maybe I love it too much… Because I’ve found myself scrolling. All. The. Time.”

Warhurst finished her statement saying that she needed to look after her baby, who needs her more than ever right now. She also added that she “never had so many plates to spin” with work and the child, so social media is more of a hindrance than a help.

Fans inundated Nina with love and support, wishing her well as she temporarily bid farewell to the app. Many said they would miss her candid takes on life’s issues, but also commended her for her need to be honest with herself.
