BBC Breakfast viewers slam ‘long’ segment as they spot ‘old’ news item

BBC Breakfast has sparked criticism from viewers for a “long” news piece that had been shown earlier in the week.

The morning programme, helmed by Roger Johnson and Nina Warhurst featured an extensive slot dedicated to the 100th birthday bash of The Old Marylebone Town Hall.

On Tuesday, October 1, when the establishment celebrated its maiden marriage anniversary by orchestrating a whopping 100 weddings at a mere £100 per lovely duo, spread across a 14-hour love marathon.

Roger chimed in with: “You may have seen this story this week, for 100 years, it’s been the venue where thousands of people have got married, celebrities included, Sir Paul McCartney, Liam Gallagher and Vicky Pattinson, have all said ‘I do’ at Old Marylebone Town Hall in central London.”

Adding to the sentiment, Nina said: “Now last week, the venue held 100 wedding ceremonies to mark the occasion and BBC News was there to witness them all.”, reports the Express.

Next, the BBC footage showed reporter Charlotte Gallagher wandering the halls, chatting up couples about their romantic tales and why they chose this iconic spot for their nuptials.

Even though it was a day brimming with emotion for many, viewers were less than thrilled to see a repeat item from earlier in the week take up the Sunday morning spotlight.

Disgruntled viewers made their opinions known on X, the platform once dubbed Twitter. Comments included the disgruntled musings of one viewer: “No new news then”, while another peeved person commented: “What a f****** load of old s***”.

Another tweet lamented: “Spare us this guff on weddings, it’s already been done to death.”

While a fourth bluntly queried: “Is there no news.”

Another moaned: “Christ this is a long segment”, while some fans were pining for the good old days of the tech show Click, which has been taken off air.

They lamented: “I’ve never missed Click so much in my life…can’t believe I’m saying that”, and another echoed the sentiment with: “Not the weddings again Jesus wept…where’s Click?”

BBC Breakfast is available to watch from 6am every day on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
