BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty branded ‘cheeky thing’ after co-star jibe

BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty has been branded a “cheeky thing” by one of her co-stars.

Naga, 49, returned to the show’s red sofas with co-host Charlie Stayt on Thursday morning (March 21), and the pair brought their usual banter with them. Ahead of a segment about the rising cost of the eggs due to extreme weather, she made her first quip, joking: “I think of Carol when we’re talking about chocolate… be careful if you have Easter eggs around Carol especially now that some are 50% more expensive than last year.”

Following the news story, meanwhile, Naga proceeded to poke fun once more at her Scottish colleague. First, Charlie declared: “I’m mesmerised by the speed of that chocolate making machine.” It prompted Naga to respond: “Do you know what would beat that? The speed of Carol scoffing them.”

As the two broke out in laughter, the camera switched to Carol, who was ready to provide viewers with today’s forecast. Laughing, she replied: “Naga, you cheeky thing!”

Sympathising with 61-year old Carol, one viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter) afterwards: “#bbcbreakfast Naga’s dishing out the passive-aggressive insults this morning.”

Later in her update Carol risked an on-air expletive as she treated fans to a tongue-twister. “You know what, Charlie and Naga,” she began. “It’s really hard to say ‘sunshine and showers’ without it coming out wrong.” Naga replied: “What was that Carol, say it again!” Charlie then joked: “It’s a shame about the sunshine and showers.”

Thankfully Carol saw the funny side of being on the receiving end of Naga’s jokes

Naga is no stranger to making a swipe at Carol, with last week proving no different. On March 14, she found herself in a mischievous mood once more.

Carol had just finished one of her forecasts when she admitted she kept forgetting what day it was. She said: “Naga and Charlie, I don’t know about you, I keep thinking it’s Wednesday today, not Thursday.” But Naga wouldn’t let her off that easy and insisted it was only Carol getting her days mixed up. Assuming a jokingly stern tone, she replied: “No, it’s just you.”

Naga couldn’t resist making her remarks following a segment on the rising cost of Easter eggs

After a long pause, Carol burst out laughing and confessed: “It probably is!”, and Naga immediately started giggling. Charlie asked: “Why do you think it’s Wednesday, Carol?”

Carol replied: “I don’t know, Charlie. I woke up this morning thinking it’s Wednesday and I still have this in my brain that it’s Wednesday. But it’s not, it’s Thursday.”

Naga wasn’t finished making fun of her pal as she went on: “What I suggest is you keep thinking it’s Wednesday and then come in tomorrow and imagine it’s Thursday. So we’ll see you tomorrow, Carol, as well…”
