Bosses at Netflix’s smash hit Bridgerton have said they have been inundated with raunchy audition tapes, following Nicola Coughlan’s six-minute sex scene.
The period drama has just finished airing its third season to acclaim from fans, who have been glued to their screens. However, a controversial moment came in this season when Penelope Featherington, played by Irish actress Nicola, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, get down and dirty in a steamy session.
The scene sparked debate and praise for Nicola, 37, who was hailed for being the first plus-sized person to have a sex scene in a popular show. However, the raunchy slice of action has had the strange side effect of the Netflix show being flooded with “unsolicited” sex tapes being sent in.

Kelly Valentine Henry, Bridgerton’s casting director, said that she has been given a ridiculous amount of X-rated tapes from eager actors looking to get on the show. She added that while she appreciates the effort the aspiring actors put in, they do not need to go to such lengths.
Speaking on the most recent episode of the Should I Delete That podcast on Sunday (June 30), Henry said: “It’s every day – I get the most unbelievable videos, unsolicited. It’s sex basically, it’s not actual sex but it’s quite punchy; it’s not nudey pictures, but not far off.”
Casting is currently ongoing for the show’s fourth season after it was given the green light by Netflix following ratings success. But there is one character that is particularly being focused on.
Kelly said that she is currently looking at someone to take on the role of Sophie Beckett, a woman who sweeps up Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson, for the next series. She added that there already has been huge interest in the role, with one hopeful going as far as to send a massive banner of herself in Regency-style clothes.
Recalling the bizarre encounter, Kelly said: “It’s a bit sad, really. I don’t understand it.”
Fans of Bridgerton rejoiced when they saw the six-minute sex scene in the fifth episode of the third season. This came after a disappointing lack of raunchy sessions in the first part of the show which aired on May 16, leading to mixed reviews from critics.
Speaking about recording the scene, Nicola admitted that they broke the set, leading to a hilarious moment once the cameras stopped rolling. “We did break a piece of furniture while doing one scene,” the actress told Entertainment Weekly.
“It’s a little bit like a stunt in which they’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna do this, this, and this’. But then they gave us freedom and we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do – that makes you feel quite empowered.
“So we felt super,” she added. They were actually really enjoyable. I didn’t think they would be. It was fun.”
