GMB host tells co-star ‘you’re a mean girl’ as things get ‘awkward’ in wardrobe chat

Good Morning Britain favourite Susanna Reid told Richard Arnold “you’re a mean girl” in what soon became an awkward moment.

Showbiz correspondent Richard was excited to bring the news of the Mean Girls Musical coming to the West End, even wearing a pink suit (it was a Wednesday, after all!) – but Susanna confessed she’d never seen the film.

Richard reminded hosts Susanna and Martin Lewis about the “cult classic” film, but argued that its label would suggest it has a few hardcore fans. “Actually, it’s a huge part of pop culture,” he said.

He soon turned his attention to Martin, wearing a dusty blue suit, and said: “This is awkward because you can’t sit with us, because on Wednesdays we wear pink!”

Susanna Reid wasn’t too sure about Mean Girls

They then showed an interview with Mean Girls writer and star Tina Fey, who spoke of bringing the classic film to the stage.

Later, trying to get into the spirit and use the lingo, Martin told Richard he was looking “fetching”. This is, of course, a nod to “fetch” – seems some people are still trying to make “fetch” happen!

Susanna went on: “So, on Wednesdays we wear pink?” She was wearing a gorgeous floral dress that was largely shades of different pinks.

Martin nervously asked: “Does that include me?” But Susanna hit back: “You’re not allowed to sit with us any more, apparently.”

Laughing, Richard said: “Daytime [television] is brutal!”

Mean Girls was released a whopping 20 years ago, and Tina Fey adapted it for Broadway, with it landing in New York in early 2018.

At the start of 2024, the musical was re-adapted for cinema, with Renee Rapp, who had previously appeared as antagonist Regina George in the musical, reprised her role.

Now, finally, after delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the show will hit London this year. It will open at the prestigious Savoy Theatre tonight (June 26) – so let’s hope everyone in attendance is also wearing pink.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
