Simon Cowell to ‘give away’ X Factor icon at wedding as she announces engagement

Simon Cowell is set to have a very important role at a former X Factor star’s upcoming wedding, as she has confirmed her engagement.

Musician Lucy Spraggan shot to fame on the ITV show back in 2012, alongside the likes of James Arthur and Rylan Clark. However, Lucy ended up withdrawing just weeks into the live shows.

Since then, the 32-year-old’s career has gone from strength to strength. Lucy has released seven top 40 studio albums and has also embarked on a slew of sell-out tours.

What’s more, it seems her personal life is going just as great too. Lucy recently confirmed that she had gotten engaged to photographer Emilia Smith, 33, after one month together.

The pair, who had been pals for 10 years, decided to take the next step while on a flight to Simon Cowell and his fiance Lauren Silverman’s Barbados home. According to Lucy, she can’t remember who asked who on the panne, but noted it “made loads of sense.”

And after the proposal, Lucy still had one more big question to ask. She told Fabulous: “We’d been staying at Simon and Lauren’s house for a few days.

“One morning, Simon was about to get in the sea and I said: ‘Will you give me away?’ and he replied: ‘Yeah!’”

Lucy, who is estranged from her birth father, added: “He went off for a swim and when he came back, he said: ‘I’d absolutely love to. It would be an honour.’”

Lucy and Simon have sustained a strong friendship over the years. Recently, he apologised for not supporting her when she was sexually assaulted during her time on The X Factor in 202.

In July 2023, Lucy bravely opened up about the incident which happened when she was 20. In her memoir, Process: Finding My Way Through, she revealed she was raped by a hotel porter.

After going public with the news, Simon issued a statement in support of her. In the face of the harrowing revelation, Simon described the singer’s ordeal as nothing short of “horrific.”
