Former Gladiators host Ulrika Jonsson wanted to host the reboot, one of her ex co-stars has claimed.
As the series makes a return with a brand new cast, the hosting choice has also been shaken up as well. Ulrika used to host the show alongside John Fashanu – but now it’s Bradley Walsh and his son Barney.
But would Ulrika have liked the call? Former contestant Cobra, formerly known as Michael Wilson, claimed she would “definitely” have taken it.

He said: “Definitely. Yeah, I mean, we’re all getting on a bit. It needs to get some, fresh, young people I think. I’m allowed to say that because I am old, I’ve arrived, I’ve been here for a while. But I always got on well with Ulrika, she was nice about me and well, she said I was one of the only normal ones.”
Sharing his thoughts on the current hosts, he added: “I think Bradley Walsh and the son doesn’t work really. I think they need a sportsman maybe. But Bradley is everywhere, he’s on everything, and it’s too saturated. He’s a nice bloke though.”
Gladiators viewers have appeared to be torn when it comes to the new hosts. Many have taken to X during the show’s resurgence, with one writing: “Bradley & Barney Walsh are the only negative on the #Gladiators reboot. Everything else is a joy to watch.”
A second added: “#Gladiators I love Bradley Walsh but for me Barney isn’t working, he’s not a natural presenter, he looks out if his depth. I feel this is nepotism at its finest.” However, one fan defended the pair and said: “This new series of #gladiators is pretty tidy. Don’t understand the hullabaloo about Bradley and Barney Walsh presenting. Doing a grand job imo.”
While another typed: “However, there were some viewers who did back the father and son. One fan typed: “I just have to see Bradley and Barney Walsh and I’m happy.”
