Wayne Lineker is currently recovering from “the worst year of his life so far” after a brutal stint in hospital as he fought for his life against a series of worrying infections
Wayne Lineker has been fighting for his life in hospital.
The O Beach owner and brother of football legend Gary Lineker has revealed all in a touching Instagram reel. Wayne filmed himself using a series of handwritten cards to explain the health issues he has been battling over the past 12 months.
Over a choral rendition of Silent Night, the 63 year old revealed via flashcards: “The worst year of my life so far. In April I flew to Ibiza for the summer. I went on a 60-day bender, surviving off drugs, alcohol and little sleep.
“At the end of June I woke up to a video of myself off my face that had gone viral, which was the number one trending video on TikTok and Twitter for the wrong reasons. At the beginning of July I was admitted to rehab for 6 weeks. My immune system crashed and I fought 7 infections including shingles.”
He continued on to explain that he “returned to Ibiza for the last two weeks of the season” but unfortunately “it was too soon to be back int that environment.”
For his health, Wayne decided to “leave after just a few days” but the ordeal was far from over. He told his fans: “In November I caught a serious infection in Dubai, flew home and was diagnosed with chronic pneumonia. I spent 7 weeks in hospital where I came frighteningly close to death…twice,” reports the Mirror.
Luckily, Wayne’s message ended on a high note as he revealed he’s managed to turn his life around: “Now I’m approaching 6 months sober and fully committed to living a healthy life, Here’s to a fresh start. Roll in 2026. Happy New Year! P.S. Going to rehab was the best decision of my life. If I can do it, so can you!”
The Lineker brother sadly missed Christmas with his family but was later discharged from hospital after a seven week stint battling pneumonia, which he described as “pure hell”.
He ended the video by saying: “I am free. Can’t even explain how happy I am to be fully recovered and out of hospital after seven weeks of pure hell. It took all my courage and fight to get over this deadly infection… #pneumonia.”
Friends and fans were quick to send their messages of support for his recovery as former Corrie actress Kym Marsh commented: “Great news xx” while DJ Collin Francis cheered: “Yesssss! It’s Go Time! Well done Wayne-O! Never in any doubt.”
