Australian actress Candy Raymond has passed away aged 75 as heartfelt tributes flooded in for the cherished soap star. She notably starred across numerous TV programmes and films, establishing herself as a recognisable face during the 1970s and early 1980s.
Her most celebrated performances include the Australian soap opera Number 96 and the television series Prisoner. Her character in the soap sparked controversy at the time as she portrayed Jill Sheridan, who was regarded as a “sex symbol” and appeared in several nude scenes, reports the Express.
In Prisoner, she took on the role of Sandra Hamilton, a jailed journalist. Her other acting work encompasses Don’s Party, Alvin Rides Again, Breaking Up, The Norman Gunston Show and Freedom.
In 2008, she featured in the documentary Not Quite Hollywood: The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation and discussed her experiences as an actress in Australia during the ’70s.

Heartfelt messages poured in for the actress as news of her death circulated on social media, with one user posting: “RIP, sorry to hear of the passing of Candy Raymond, aged 75. In her personal life, she was concerned for animal welfare and would take in rescue dogs. She also led an artistic life, engaging in painting and writing. Condolences to Candy’s family and friends.”
One person responded: “Sad loss of a great actor. Thank you for sharing your work with us.” Another commented: “Wow she was great on the TV, thanks Candy.”
A third penned: “How very sad, may she rest in perfect peace.” A fourth declared: “A fantastic actress, RIP.”
Beyond her screen appearances, Candy also graced the stage, contributing to productions of The Rocky Horror Show and Play It Again, Sam. Before her passing, she resided near Bowral in Australia.
Although she kept her family life largely under wraps, it was known that she was the sibling of actress Victoria Raymond, who also featured on the soap Number 96.
Her sister, more commonly referred to as Vicki Raymond, primarily worked during the ’70s. She portrayed Bev Boughton in the soap and frequently appeared as the cover girl on Australian TV magazines.
Her cause of death has not yet been revealed.
