BBC Breakfast turned heated when Naga Munchetty grilled an MP over the recent migrant crisis – and at one point she cut him off during the interview.
Friday’s BBC Breakfast saw Naga and her co-star Charlie Stayt talk to travel minister Grant Shaps about the recent covid travel restrictions, but (November 26).
It comes after at least 27 people tragically lost their lives after drowning in the English Channel near Calais after their boat sank.
Starting off, Naga said: “We need to talk about what’s happening with the relationship between the UK and France.
“We heard this morning that Boris Johnson issued this letter with five action points proposed to the French. There seems to be some disagreement on the French side…”
She proceeded to explain that the UK hasn’t been invited to the meeting with other European countries such as Belgium as the relationship has broken down.
She asked him: “What’s your reaction to that, how are you going to fix this?”
Grant replied: “I think quite simply that no nation can tackle this alone so I hope that the French will reconsider. It’s in our interests and their interests.
“It’s certainly in the interests of the people that have been people trafficked to the UK in these tragic scenes we’re seeing, and people losing their lives.
However, when the politician tried to continue, Naga savagely cut him off.
He began: “We absolutely need to work together on this and I think…” before she said: “But you’re not in the room [with the French], are you?
“The UK is not in the room in this crucial meeting this weekend.”
Grant replied: “Let’s see what happens. Friends need to work together, there’s no other way.”
PM Boris Johnson said he was “appalled” by what happened in the Channel.
Authorities say the 27 people who died trying to cross the Channel included 17 men, seven women as well as two teenage boys and a girl.
French interior minister Gerard Darmanin accused Britain of handling the situation badly, and he said other nations like Belgium and Germany could do a better job.
