Sally Dynevor has revealed she’s excited for her character’s saucy new storyline on Coronation Street after winning a BAFTA TV Award with her ITV soap.
The 58-year-old actress has played Cobbles regular Sally Metcalfe since 1986 so she’s already been involved in a plenty of action-packed plots.
It’s been confirmed she’s set to star in intimate scenes with her on-screen husband Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) in the aftermath of the cabbie’s heart operation.
Viewers of the serial drama have seen the pair struggling to get it in the bedroom on ever since Tim’s triple heart bypass surgery, leaving Sally feeling sexually frustrated.
Sally has told Daily Star that she’s thrilled to be able to act in the upcoming scenes that she says are both “comical and serious” in nature.
Opening up about her racy storyline, the ITV legend said: “So Tim’s had a bypass and now he’s suffering with impotency, so Sally’s sexually frustrated. So it’s very fun but also a serious subject so it’s a great story to do.”
Former Dancing on Ice contestant Sally went on stage to pick up Corrie’s award for Soap and Continuing Drama ad the glitzy London award ceremony, which was hosted by Richard Ayoade.
The actress admitted she was rather pleased to be playing a funny sex storyline and enjoys acting in comedic scenes, but she recognises the impotency plot also has a genuine “seriousness” to it.
“The thing I love about my story is that there’s a little bit of comedy there, which I quite like doing.” Sally said.
“So there is comedy but actually there is quite a seriousness to this storyline as well.”
Sally Metcalfe wants to take full advantage of the fact her mother-in-law Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) has moved out of their house, but Tim just can’t fulfill her desires and do the deed.
The cab driver tries to avoid his impotency from his wife, and it’s not the first time he’s kept his health struggles from her.
He does agree to get help and Sally offers to go with him to the doctors’, but he insists he wants to go alone.
Tim then lies to Sally as he makes out his condition is nothing to worry about and perfectly normal after a huge op.
Things turn awkward between the pair as Sally tried to broach the subject of their disastrous love making.
However, an embarrassed Tim refuses to discuss it, leaving Sally fuming.
He later issued an apology to Sally and presents her with some flowers, and they enjoy a lovely meal together.
Sally dedicated Corrie’s BAFTA win to murdered daughter Sophie Lancaster and her daughter Sylvia in an emotional on-stage moment.
Sophie was murdered in 2007 for being dressed as a goth, and Corrie recently aired a chilling hate crime story.
Sally said: “We weren’t expecting this tonight, we really weren’t, so thank you so much Bafta for this award.
“Working on this show is just a privilege – and the drama and the comedy go so well on Corrie.
“And one of the most important stories we have told this year was the hate crime story. So we would like to dedicate this to Sophie Lancaster and her mother Sylvia Lancaster.”
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 8pm
