I’m A Celeb’s Olivia Attwood says there’s a ‘lot of pressure’ being the first islander

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant Olivia Attwood has said that there is “a bit of pressure” when it comes to being the first Love Island star to make it onto the show.

In an interview with the Daily Star and other media outlets, she said: “It’s a huge compliment but it is a bit of pressure.

“I think there have been like 400 Love Island contestants now and I know they have met with people from Love Island over the years and it was always a big no – so to get the call this year, I mean, I couldn’t really believe it myself.”

She said that she believes that all of the work she has done since being on the ITV2 reality show in 2017 has “set her apart” from the show’s other stars.

Olivia says there is “a bit of pressure” that comes with being the firs Love Islander on the show

She explained: “Obviously the work I’ve done over the past five years and my documentaries and my own TV show, I think obviously that has set me apart in that way and it’s helped me to show a different side of myself. But yeah, they asked me to do it and I was overjoyed.”

Olivia explained that she has been approached multiple times over the years to do other shows but has always said “no”.

However, she said that she couldn’t resist the jungle.

She said she was “overjoyed” to be asked to join the cast this year

Olivia continued: “Obviously there were nerves but it’s such a huge pop culture phenomenon, this show is 22 years in the making. I grew up watching this show.

“I always said of all the reality shows out there this has been the one that I always wanted to do and I’ve turned down a lot over the past couple of years waiting that the might one day let me be the first islander on so yeah, it was just complete.

“I was so glad to be asked this year too, the first year it’s back in Australia.”
