Hollyoaks Diane star gushes over 'brilliant' co-star after heartbreaking 'death' scene

Hollyoaks actress Alex Fletcher has praised her co-star Angus Castle-Doherty after Diane Hutchinson’s heartbreaking “death” scene.

Viewers were left on the edge of their seats during Tuesday’s (January 10) first-look episode on E4 as evil Eric Foster shot Diane with crossbow in a horrific attack.

Eric has issued sinister threats to all the women in the village over the past few months and he set his disturbing plan in motion in recent scenes.

However, it was later revealed in a shock twist that Diane was in fact still alive and Tony only said his wife had died so Eric would let them out of the pub.

Speaking about working with Eric actor Angus on the hard-hitting storyline, Alex gushed: “He’s just brilliant and has genuinely been such an asset for the cast and really cares. He’s really sold it.

“So when you do a scene with him, he’s so intense he brings it every take.

“He’s just fab. When me and Nick [Pickard] shot the scene he came over and gave us a big hug.

Opening up about the moment Eric shot Diane, Alex recalled: “Angus didn’t take his eyes off me.

“I think that’s where we got the performance. It was just horrible.”

“After filming, Angus came over and gave me a hug and Nick [Pickard] was like It’s not real.

Alex went on to share her first thoughts when she was handed the script for the dramatic hour-long episode.

She said: “It nearly sent me over the edge.

“When I had the meeting with all the chief execs and producers, it was a bit of a shock when they told me about the storyline.

“I knew it was going to be brilliant and I know nobody else has really done this storyline in any other soap so I know it was a big one.

“But I’m not going to lie my main thing was ‘what reaction am I going to pull when I get crossbowed?’ and it played on my mind for weeks.

“We were trying to make light of it and I was like ‘It’s fine, it’s like Robin Hood’, cut to on set with the real crossbow handler and it was like ‘this just got real’.”

While Diane appears to survive have survived the attack, Maxine Minniver (Nicki Sanderson) was left for dead as Eric struck again before getting caught by police officers.

Fans will have to wait and see if she survives.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episode on E4 at 7pm
