Antiques Roadshow ‘s audience was clearly shocked after three bottles of Johnnie Walker whiskey were valued at a price way beyond expectation.
Tonight’s episode of Antiques Roadshow was based at Clissold Park and showed punters from all over the city coming to the Hackney green space to value their heirlooms and treasures. The episode saw a particularly fruitful set of estimations, from a parrot ring worth over £10k, to an ancient pot worth up to £4,000.
One woman hit the jackpot when her three bottles of Johnnie Walker scotch whisky were valued. The owner admitted she preferred a glass of “pinot grigio” to Whiskey, and has had the antique bottles sitting in her attic for over 50 years.

The Antiques Roadshow expert admitted that storing the bottles in the attic isn’t a good idea, commenting, “it’s not great – obviously you have some evaporation going on here”. However, he later drew attention to their rare nature, as it is “quite unusual” to find the bottles alone and “not in a collection”.
The owner explained the bottles came into the possession of her family in the 1950s. Her grandfather allegedly brought them home “to the horror” of her grandmother, after a local pub was closing down, its landlord practically giving them away.
The pub landlord did not realise he was giving away what would become liquid gold, just over 70 years later. The three bottles were valued at a whopping £15,000 altogether.
Not only the owner, but the TV audience were visibly shocked – gasping at the three bottles of dram’s extreme value. Many viewers took to Twitter to share their surprise.
One user wrote, “3 bottles of Johnnie Walker stuck in up the loft. Taken onto Antiques Roadshow and valued at 15 grand!!!!! Clucking Bell !!!!” whilst another added, “Staight on ebay with the johnny walkers [sic’]”.
Another drew attention to the on-screen audience’s visible shock, writing, “Miss red sunglasses behind the owner gobsmacked at the Johnny Walker whisky valuations on #AntiquesRoadshow “.
However, some of the audience were sceptical about the bottles’ high valuation. One account wrote, “There only red label they can’t be that much #antiquesroadshow [sic]”. Another joked, “This punter’s kept those bottles of the pub landlords piss in a cupboard for 50 years!… #Antiquesroadshow ”
Antiques Roadshow next airs on Sunday 5th November on BBC Two at 8pm.
