Severance fans have noticed that one vital scene foreshadows the major events of episode four and could be the key to figuring out what happens next in the series
Severance fans are losing their minds over one major piece of information.
Apple TV viewers will remember the Lumon is Listening video shown to the Macro Data Refinement department after the Over Time Contingency incident. Interestingly, a scene from the stop-motion video hinted toward one of the most shocking events that occurred later in episode four.
In the clip, Helly’s puppet is shown bobbing for pineapples with her hands tied behind her back. She leans forward and dips her head into the water as the shot then moves to show her face from below.
As Helly dunked her head underwater, the camera zooms in on her facial expression which mirrors the exact shot used when Irving attempts to drown Helly in the forest. In episode four, the MDR department find themselves in a snowy forest and Irving slowly begins to realise that Helly is actually Helena Eagen acting as a “mole”.
After a short confrontation in front of the “tallest waterfall in the world” Irving grabs Helena by the scruff of her neck, drags her down to the water and shoves her face into the freezing stream.
The camera then cuts to the real life version of the stop-motion shot of Helly’s puppet used in the Lumon video and fans are losing their minds over the jaw-dropping Easter egg. Many viewers took to social media to point out that the massive hint that was right under their noses all along.
Over on Reddit, someone branded the parallels as “insane foreshadowing” as another person typed: “Consider my mind blown.” Others noted that they need to “go back and rewatch” the rest of the episodes in case they missed any other hints.
“When she was getting drowned, my mind was telling me I’d see this before but I didn’t realise it was [from] the new orientation vid. Good catch,” praised another Apple TV fan.
Another person added their observation: “And Irving was fired [after dunking Helly underwater], the stop-motion showed his head on fire,” referring to the Lumon is Listening video, while others theorised that Irving will “end up in the hall of mirrors” like his puppet.
