Christine McGuinness faced her fears on Celebrity Hunted in honour of her mum.

The series was filmed to raise awareness about cancer, which her beloved mother, Joanne, is battling. Christine told the Daily Star Sunday: “I did the show with Mum in mind. She is still having treatment and she is doing incredibly well.

“It was the thought of my mum that kept me going. When I told my her I was going to do the show, she went, ‘Oh God, you’re going to embarrass us again’. But I think I did better than people expected me to.”

Christine opened up about her mum Joanne’s valiant battle with cancer. Last month, the 36-year-old shared a positive update after her parent was diagnosed with HER2-positive breast cancer in lockdown.

Speaking with Lorraine Kelly, Christine said about her mum’s health: “She’s doing OK. She’s still having treatment, and she still has all of her check-ups.”

Christine, who shares three children with ex-hubby Paddy McGuinness, has previously opened up about her mum’s illness. Joanne not only had an operation to remove the lump, but she also faced chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

In a bout of good news in 2021, Christine confirmed her mum had gone into remission, reports Liverpool Echo.

This prompted Christine to get checked for the BRCA gene herself after four of her aunties were also diagnosed with cancer.

However, luckily for the mum of three, her results came back negative.

“I’m just really relieved. Thank God it came back negative,” Christine expressed to OK! magazine in 2021. “It doesn’t mean I can’t get cancer, but it means my chances are the same as anybody else’s.”

Despite the reassuring test outcome, Christine confessed that the possibility of her children inheriting the gene still worries her.

She said: “As a mum, I worry about my children anyway. But when there’s a condition like this in your family, I do worry. I feel better knowing I don’t carry the gene and I’m hoping they won’t either. But the reality is, unfortunately, it’s something that can happen.”
