Former ITV newsreader Trevor Green has sadly died at the age of 74.
The veteran broadcaster was famed as a newsreader for Granada Reports and ITV News – he also presented on Piccadilly Radio. He died “peacefully” in the early hours of the morning, after developing breathing problems.
His wife Joanna confirmed his passing on Facebook, via Piccadilly Radio. She told followers she had lost her “soulmate” in the emotional tribute.
She wrote: “Trevor slipped away peacefully this morning in the early hours of what is today his 74th Birthday. He developed breathing probs last evening.

“I’ve lost my soul mate and feel rather at sea. But thankfully he’s now out of pain and we’ve been blessed with lots of time in recent weeks and months to reminisce and shape his wishes.
She added: “Sorry we couldn’t fix another visit…Taking quiet me-time out today to reflect on our 44 years together. Will miss him like mad. Let u know plans in due course.”

Trevor’s Piccadilly Radio colleague, Chris Moore, said the presenter was a “gem”. He wrote in his own tribute: “Trevor and Jo fought his illness together in a way which I can only describe as humbling.
“I would not be able to come anywhere close. He was one of the nicest, kindest, sharpest, wittiest, coolest and most professional people I ever had the honour to work, and that’s saying something.
“His marriage to Jo was something special too. She is a wonderful person who gave him everything for their whole life together. A David Vear signing, he was part of a golden generation in a golden era of radio.
“Those who knew him will have their own stories and memories. Suffice to say, we’ve lost another gem….God speed my friend.”
Trevor’s Granada Reports colleague Lucy Meacock also paid tribute to Trevor, writing on X: “So sad to hear this – we all had such happy days together @GranadaReports. It was a privilege to work with Trevor and Jo – not only great journalists but also great fun …sending you much love Jo XX”
Colleague Rob McLoughlin commented: “So sad to say goodbye to Trevor Green a stalwart of @GranadaReports and @itvnews for many years. A super journalist, reporter and colleague. Love to Jo and all his friends, family and fans. RIP Trevor.”
Green spent nearly 20 years on regional TV news show Granada Reports before he left in 2006. He later founded his own media consultancy company, Vision Impact, and also served as a media relations officer for Cheshire East Council.
