EastEnders fans have pleaded with producers to make Reiss Colwell, Dot’s great-nephew a permanent character in Albert Square.
Jonny Freeman, who plays Reiss, joined the cast in a guest appearance for Dot Branning’s funeral episode on Tuesday (13 Dec). Reiss warmed up to a grieving Sonia and the paired closed the episode playing musical instruments.
In Thursday’s (15 Dec) episode, it was revealed things had heated up between the pair and they slept together. Martin, Sonia’s ex husband had popped over when Dotty dropped the bombshell.

As viewers tuned in to the awkward moment, they took to Twitter to make a request to the show’s bosses.
“Need Reiss to stay #EastEnders ” one wrote.
A second agreed, writing: “Reece needs to be a regular character #EastEnders”
“Reece seems like a perfect fit to #EastEnders”, a third added.
Jonny, who’s transitioning over from another BBC show, Silent Witness, told the Radio Times that he found the experience “surreal”.
“In terms of my first day – it’s not filmed in sequence – and in my very first scene I met Richard the director and Natalie. I found myself by Albert Square, standing over a car with the Queen Vic behind Sonia from EastEnders”, he recalled.
Jonny went on to say: “So I thought it was pretty surreal. I mean, that’s pretty much the weirdest introduction to any job anyone could ever have.”
The EastEnders hopeful added that joining at this time was a lucky chance at a privileged opportunity.
“The writers, everyone, is so passionate that you feel inspired every moment you’re there. So it’s a privilege. And to join [at] this sort of time is all the luckier because I think it was a time when the cast were reflecting on June”, he stated.
