Actress Patricia Brake, known for her role in Porridge, which aired from 1974-1977, has died after a ‘very long’ battle with cancer.
Patricia’s family have confirmed that the star has passed away following her impressive 60-year long career.
She took on her role in BBC’s Porridge alongside Ronnie Barker back in the 1970s and played the star’s on-screen daughter Ingrid Fletcher.
Brake had since reprised the role when she starred in Going Straight with Richard Beckinsale and Nicholas Lyndhurst.
The actress had a star studded array of famous friends, including legendary comedians The Two Ronnies and Morecambe and Wise.
Although she rose to fame in the BBC sitcom Porridge, she also later went on to work with the likes of ITV for Manhunt, The Glums, Midsomer Murders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
With the BBC, she acted in the shows Porridge, Doctors, Holby City and Casualty, and also had parts in 2point4children and Eldorado.
Her agents Scott Marshall Partners shared the sad news on Twitter.
The post read: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our client and well-loved stage and TV actress Patricia Brake at the age of 79, after a very long battle with cancer.”
The actress’ agent described her as a “soap stalwart” and someone who would be “remembered as an outstanding feed for comedy greats”.
Jonathan Watson replied: “A lovely person,” and signed off with a kiss.
Another fan simply replied with praying, praising and heart emojis while one wrote: “Goodnight Patricia Brake. For millions, always Eldorado’s troubled Gwen Lockhead or flighty Ingrid, Fletch’s daughter, in Porridge among others. A veteran of tv drama and comedy. Rest in peace.”
Another kind fan said that she had a “fine and long career” and as such will “always be remembered with affection,” with one loyal follower saying she “had a gift for comedy”.
Patricia was born in Bath and studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and later joined the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company and performed alongside fellow acting greats Dame Judi Dench and Dame Diana Rigg.
Her most recent project was just last year in 2021 when she played a rape victim in Manhunt.
