BRITs 2024 winners list in full as Raye makes history with record-breaking wins

Escapism isn’t an option for Raye after her record-breaking haul at the BRITs.

The Londoner took home six of the seven prizes she was nominated for last night including the three big categories – Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Artist Of The Year. Tearful Raye couldn’t contain her emotions performing live with an orchestra at London’s O2 Arena, having overcome so much adversity and even considered giving up music.

In 2021, she criticised her former label Polydor, claiming it “manipulated” her and withheld the release of her debut album for seven years. She eventually cut ties to pursue a career as an independent artist, scored a massive No1 with Escapism and is now the belle of the BRITs.

Raye said: “I’d had enough and reached a breaking point. I believe artists should be in control of their careers and their music full-stop. It is more power to the little people. I was able to have a moment of being heard or seen. It’s a blessing to have that message received.”

She also made history as no other artist has ever won six BRIT Awards in a single night, smashing the previous record of four held by Harry Styles last year, Adele (2016) and Blur (1995). Organisers will also be relieved that three-quarters of the 17 awards went to women or mixed-gender acts this year.

Last year saw the end of gendered categories but it backfired when men all but swept the board, with Harry Styles dominating. Now things have swung the opposite way thanks to Raye, Dua Lipa, SZA and Miley Cyrus among the female honorees.

Dua Lipa kicked off the BRITs with a rendition of Training Season, and there were spectacular turns with lasers by Calvin Harris with Ellie Goulding, plus a medley from Global Icon winner Kylie Minogue to close the show with a Padam!
