Hollyoaks newcomer ‘bickers like siblings’ with co-star but ‘there’s a lot of love’

Hollyoaks newcomer Emma Johnsey-Smith has opened up about close bond with co-star Matthew James Bailey.

The actress made her debut as Dilly Harcourt in recent scenes of the Channel 4 soap and she quickly fell for Ethan Williams.

However, Dilly is unaware that Ethan is still dating Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), who is pretending to be in love with Dilly’s rich brother Rafe Harcourt in a bid to get some of his money.

Opening up about joining Hollyoaks, Emma said: “It’s been great. Dilly’s very fun to play and every time I get a script I’m looking for her witty one liners because she’s savage in her words but it makes it so fun to play.

Especially when she’s up against Sienna that’s just a battle of the best and I think at the moment she’s been winning.

“Also its important to know her style, her fashion, all of that really adds to that character.

“Whenever I pop up to the costume room I love to see what they’ve got planned for her because a lot of her clothes are very different to people that are on the show already and they’re just fun and that adds to her whole wild vibe.”

Despite only working on the show a few months, Emma has built close bonds with her co-stars.

She explained: “I’m genuinely close to lots of different people but as we work together the most it probably would be Matt, who plays Ethan.

“We bicker like siblings, but there’s a lot of love there and we have so much fun on set.”

Rafe treated Sienna to a bouquet of flowers and an invite to go through plans for the new office with him earier this week and Dilly continued to air her concerns for their relationship.

An opportunity for Dilly to find out more about Sienna later presented itself when listening-in as Diane Hutchinson (Alex Fletcher) started delving into her rival’s past.

Fans will have to see if Dilly manages to expose Sienna or will she and Ethan manage to get her hands on Rafe’s cash.

Hollyoaks airs weeknights on Channel 4 at 6.30pm followed by first-look episodes on E4 at 7pm or watch from midnight on All4
