Our Girl viewers were left baffled tonight when Captain James was mentioned in the episode – despite his absence on the show.
The hunky soldier, played by Ben Aldridge, hasn’t been seen on the BBC One drama since the end of season three.
In the finale, he could be seen ushering Section Two to jump from a cliff-edge in the Belizean jungle, in the hopes of landing to safety.
However, his absence hasn’t been mentioned since season four began, despite the central role he played in the military show.
Tonight, Michelle Keegan ‘s Lance Corporal Georgie Lane mentioned his name during a psychological assessment – raising viewers’ hopes.
Describing their relationship as a rebound, she said: “It’s not like there’s not been anyone else. There was one – a good friend of mine. Captain James?
“He was a good friend of mine. It was more of a comfort, rebound situation.”
Taking to Twitter, certain Our Girl fans predicted Captain James could make a surprise comeback on the show in the future.

One said: “Please tell me Captain James comes back???? #OurGirl it’s just not the same!”
A second added: “Heart fluttered when Captain James was mentioned, it’s time for him to come back.”
While a third chimed: “Another week and still thinking why can’t they bring back Captain James already.”

“Also, where the f*** has Captain James gone!? Episode five and I’m sitting here wondering if I missed a season because he hasn’t been mentioned once!!! I’m so confused,” added a fourth.
Unfortunately for fans of the show, Captain James is unlikely to return to the series, due to the actor’s filming commitments.
During an interview with Metro last year, the 34-year-old star explained: “I’m doing another job which would make me pretty much unavailable.

“I was never in a contract to do another one, none of us were, so I guess it’d be basically who they could get back and, when they decide to do it, who’s available kind of thing.”
Our Girl continues on Tuesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
