Harrison Ford's brutal fitness regime as he films new Indiana Jones movie

Harrison Ford, who plays the iconic character Indiana Jones, has a brutal fitness regime as he films the new movie.

The Hollywood star has undertaken a brutal regime to help him manage the long hours of the filming schedule in the North East.

The 79-year-old has been cycling up to 40 miles a day and taking plenty of walks when he’s not in character.

The brutal fitness plan, alongside just six hours of sleep, keeps him whip-cracking fit as well as eating energy-boosting supplement bars, writes The Mirror.

Ford has been filming the fifth Indiana Jones movie at Bamburgh Castle, which sits around 50 miles north of Newcastle.

At around 5am, he arrives back at the five-star hotel, Malmaison, situated in the Quays area of the city.

Co-stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Bond villain Mads Mikkelsen are also thought to be staying in the same hotel.

By 11am, the star has been up and out and seen strolling by the waterside before dining at a local restaurant for lunch.

After, he geared up in cycling clothes before heading out towards the coastline for two bike rides with two aides.

A source said: “It’s incredible. He seems to live a very strict routine. You can set your watch by the things he does at the same time every day.

“It’s clockwork, very regimented. It’s wake up, lunch, a very long bike ride, then he’s at the film set from 6pm.

“He then arrives back at the hotel around 5am. That exercise and work regime would be punishment for a man half his age. It’s real dedication.”

The Hans Solo star uses a carbon Colnago road racing bike, which costs £12,000 new from the store.

On one journey, he cycled 40 miles from Alnwick to Newcastle.

And on another day he was spotted riding 12 miles along the glorious River Tyne before stopping for a bite to each at the Ship’s Cat seafood restaurant based in North Shields where he enjoyed sea bass.

The Hollywood legend always rides alongside a security guard and a personal assistant with security vehicles following behind.

While the actor stays in tremendous shape he still has a younger stuntman on set.

One plot rumour around the new movie is that the archaeologist Jones will discover the legendary Fountain of Youth.

If the character rolls back the years, Ford may be replaced by a younger, potentially CGI version of himself, for some areas of the movie.

Locals in Grosmont, near Whitby, were able to see him up close when he walked about to see if his costume fit well.

Villagers say they saw him strolling about in full Indiana gear and he event visited the local pub for a chat with the landlord.
