Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway has confessed that she found it quite peculiar to leave her husband Derek Draper on his own, amid his health battle, to enjoy her first night out since February last year.
Mother-of-two Kate admitted she was “very excited” but also felt “very strange” when she attended the West End opening of Wonderville at the Palace Theatre.
Kate, 54, Debbie McGee and Love Island’s Amy Hart also attended the star-studded event.
Talking openly about her first night out since 2020, Kate said: “It’s our first time out since February 2020 so we are really excited, and this is a date that has sprung up because it was going to happen a few weeks ago and then it didn’t happen and then we just thought, ‘Let’s go for it’ – so very exciting.”
Talking about her husband she added: “It was very strange leaving him tonight to come out because he is a big fan of magic, but it is not possible at the moment so we just said next time and see him when we get back.”
Magic and illusion show Wonderville features mind reader Chris Cox, Britain’s Got Talent star Josephine Lee and Magic Circle triple champion Edward Hilsum.
The show was originally delayed due to a member of the production team receiving a positive covid-19 test.
Kate also expressed her support to the entertainment industry which was dramatically hit throughout the pandemic.
She explained: “I think it has been really tough for lots of industries and I think when we think about how tough it is for (the) arts we worry about the performers, who I think have had it very tough.”
The presenter also sympathised with those who have been left without work.
Kate and her husband Derek had a turbulent time last year after he was admitted to hospital last March due to suffering with coronavirus symptoms.
Derek, who formally worked as political adviser was placed into a coma as his condition worsened and didn’t leave hospital until earlier this year.
Though he was known as one of the worse coronavirus cases in Britain, Derek is now back at home with Kate and their two children Darcey and Billy.
Former GMB presenter Piers Morgan recently spoke about Derek’s condition and said he is “still effectively in a coma”.
