Love Island’s Faye is ‘super bothered’ about bombshell despite filing her nails

The image of Faye Winter turning her back on the new Love Island bombshell arrival to file her nails instead of welcoming them has became an internet sensation thanks to Wednesday’s episode.

After losing a challenge, the girls were banished up onto the roof terrace to await the arrival of a new girl.

All of the others stood anxiously waiting and watching their men stood below to see how they reacted when the new stunner walked in.

However, Faye looked like she wasn’t having any of it.

Viewers tweeted in hysterics over the exchange.

“Faye just told me I need to keep a nail file in my bag at all times in case I need to act unbothered on demand. Love it!” with crying laughing emojis, tweeted one viewer.

“Faye filing her nails? She’s my favourite” added another.

“She thinks she’s the main character and she’s right!” exclaimed someone else.

However, despite appearing “unbothered” on the surface and saying “I don’t think we should be bothered, let’s just sit here”, all is not as it seems.

Rhian Kivits is a Relate trained Sex and Relationship Expert who also looks at body language, and she thinks it’s all an act.

She says: “Faye’s body language and speech isn’t fooling me – she’s super bothered about the prospect of a new girl coming into the villa.

“She’s possibly having a stronger emotional reaction than any of the other girls.

“From a psychological perspective, when she’s motivated to sit down and file her nails it’s because she’s feeling an immense amount of anxiety. She needs to withdraw and soothe herself.”

The now famous nail filing is all bravado, says Rhian.

He added: “Filing her nails might seem like the perfect demonstration of nonchalance, but it’s all an act.

“In truth what she’s doing there is distracting herself because fears about the impact of having a new girl around are undermining her confidence in those moments.

The other girls could be heard bigging up the new girl, saying she’ll be “gorgeous” and like a “Victoria’s Secret Model”, and Rhian says this doesn’t go down well with Faye.

She explains: “The idea that she’ll pose a threat triggers Faye. That’s why she puts on a sulky, childish voice, saying that she doesn’t care and that they should throw a bottle of water over the girl’s head.

“That throwaway comment speaks volumes – it tells us that Faye’s fantasising about making the new girl feel unwelcome and look silly from the outset.”

“This would alleviate her insecurity and make her feel less threatened.

Despite her attempts to ignore, Faye eventually stands up to look with the other girls: “She can’t resist wanting to know what she’s up against.”

“Her insecurity is transparent because she shouts with a nervous laugh “Not bothered at all” but quickly follows up with a pessimistic comment “Just my luck, another one after what I’ve got”.

Faye has made a name for herself in the villa for putting up barriers and not letting anyone in.

Rhian says it’s a common problem: “Faye may have learned that it’s easier for her to put on a tough exterior than risk exposing vulnerable feelings when she’s insecure or fears that things won’t go her way.

“She clearly compares herself to other girls and has a niggling worry that in a competitive situation, she won’t be chosen.

“Some girls enjoy competitive, edgy situations like this because they’re confident and ready to face a threat head on.

“I don’t think that’s the kind of girl Faye is, and beneath the facade she might worry she’s not good enough and her behaviour is all about overcompensating for that.

With many viewers thinking that Faye’s guy Teddy might go for new bombshell arrival AJ, should Faye be worried?
