Sarah Harding has revealed she has a strange phobia of vomit – and it was “torture” growing up.
The Girls Aloud singer, who is battling cancer, made the admission in her new book Hear Me Out.
Speaking candidly about her early years at prep school, the 39-year-old music star revealed she is scared stiff of seeing someone be sick.
And she revealed things got so bad that there was “constant sickness and vomiting” all around her following her formative years.
“Emetophobia is a fear of vomit, and in my case, it was a fear of seeing another person throwing up,” she penned.
“It started when there was a horrible stomach bug going around the school. It spread like wildfire around the dorm, and, in the middle of one night, the girl in the top bunk above me threw up violently.
“You can just imagine the sound of her retching and the sick hitting the floor. For weeks afterwards I slept with my hands over my ears in case it happened again.”
Thankfully Sarah, who was tragically diagnosed with breast cancer last year, admits the phobia “isn’t so bad” these days, although she warned she’s “not great” around someone who’s ill of being sick.
Earlier this week Sarah gave her army of fans something to smile about with some happy news.

She spoke of her feelings of joys after learning that her brain and lung tumours had shrunk in size following her cancer treatment last year.
Sarah was initially in “denial” about the pain in her body before discovering she had advanced breast cancer.
And the celebrity admitted she nearly died in hospital with sepsis before she started chemotherapy.
Sarah was in agony before reluctantly seeking urgent medical help, initially having dismissed the pain as a cyst.
The Brit-award winner Sarah recalled her health went from bad to worse when she was rushed to intensive care after having a port fitted in her chest.
That led to her developing sepsis and coming close to death.
“With both my lungs and kidneys failing, doctors decided to put me into an induced coma,” wrote Sarah, who found success in one of the most successful girl bands in British Pop history.
“Even once I was off the ventilator I couldn’t speak properly. All I could do was make noises like a chimpanzee trying to communicate.”
Girls Aloud bandmates Cheryl Tweedy, 37, Nadine Coyle, 35, and Kimberley Walsh, 39, have also been giving Sarah much-needed support through arguably the toughest battle of her life.
