EastEnders star Rita Simons, who played Roxy Mitchell on the BBC soap before a sensational exit with her on-screen sister Ronnie, made a bold comment during ITV’s soap quiz showdown Thursday night.
The latest episode of Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family was marketed as a battle of the soaps, with 44-year-old Rita going head-to-head with her Coronation Street rival Craig Charles.
The 56-year-old Red Dwarf star appeared on Corrie over the course of 10 years until 2015.
Both actors played the game alongside their respective family members, but it was a quiz genius from The Chase who tried to ramp up their rivalry.
Anne Hegerty teased: “There’s a longstanding rivalry between EastEnders and Corrie.
“Do that add a bit of extra spice to today’s content?”
“Well it would if Craig was in Corrie any more,” Rita joked, directly looking over at her opponent.
Rita appeared on the panel with her brother Ben and sister-in-law Sam.
But Anne was equally biting with her comments as she fired back at the player: “Or indeed you were in EastEnders anymore.”
“Exactly or I wasn’t dead,” Rita laughed. “So no.”
Roxy and Ronnie drowned in incredibly dramatic scenes on EastEnders back in 2017.
The plot’s conclusion was one of the most memorable in the BBC soap’s history, with many fans gutted the iconic sisters were killed off in one fell swoop.
Craig, who was joined by his daughter Anna-Jo and son Jack, left Corrie to carry on filming Red Dwarf and he now hosts shows on BBC Radio 2.
His character Lloyd Mullaney wasn’t killed off, however, so there’s always a chance he could return to the cobbles one day.
Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family continues weekly on ITV.
