Big Brother star Nikki Grahame’s mum has opened up about the final moments of her daughter’s life before she tragically passed away.
Sue Grahame has bravely shared the story of tragic reality TV star Nikki’s lifelong battle with the eating disorder which ultimately took her life after decades of suffering from anorexia.
The 67-year-old bereaved mother has spoken candidly to fans of her late daughter – who passed away on April 9, 2021 aged just 38 years old – in a new feature for OK! magazine ahead of a documentary about Nikki’s life.
The show – NIkki Grahame: Who Is She? – will air next month to mark the one-year anniversary of her death.
Writing in OK!, Sue revealed how she was the last person to speak to her daughter before she passed away after growing incredibly frail and unwell with her condition.
She said: “As it turns out, I was the last person to speak to Nikki. On the day she died, she called me at 3.30am to tell me she’d made it to the bathroom with her new walking frame.
“I said, ‘Well done Nikki, take it one step at a time.’ She replied, ‘I’m so tired, Mum.’ I told her, ‘It’s OK, Sausage. Close your eyes and go back to sleep.’ She died in her sleep that night. I’d heard her final breaths.”
Sue then detailed how a friend discovered that Nikki had passed away the following day and called her distraught.
She continued: “Nikki’s friend found her unconscious in bed later that day. I got a call from her, screaming and crying. ‘She’s gone,’ she told me. I thought, ‘Gone? Gone for a walk or something?’ until her friend said, ‘She’s dead.’
“I made her promise to stop the paramedics from moving her until I got there, which she did. I kissed my little girl’s mouth and stroked her hair.”
Sue also admitted how the image of her daughter’s body being placed into a body bag and taken away is something that will live with her forever.
She added: “I’ll never be able to forget watching her tiny frame being wheeled out of her bedroom in a body bag. I went down with her in the lift and just before they took her out of the building, I asked which end her head was at and held it in my hands.”
Nikki Grahame: Who is She? airs on Monday 7 April at 9 pm on Channel 4.
