Coronation Street death horror in Kelly Neelan exit twist after tragic Laura news

It’s been a tough time on Coronation Street for teenager Kelly Neelan in the wake of Seb Franklin’s brutal murder.

With Kelly thrown behind bars for the crime Corey Brent committed, her recent release hasn’t quite been the fresh start she’d hoped for after Seb’s mum Abi did her best to make Kelly’s life hell.

But landing a steady job at the hairdressers and rebuilding her relationship with Imran and Toyah has left the youngster in a better place.

It could all come crashing down around her next week, though, as she’s hit with some tragic news.

Kelly is delighted when her formerly homeless pal Stu invites her – along with Gary and Maria – for a free meal at Speed Daal.

But as she enjoys a hearty meal cooked by Stu, the trio are left stunned when Kelly’s mum Laura interrupts proceedings to announce that she is dying of stomach cancer, and has only months left to live.

Laura, however, is left wounded when Kelly doesn’t believe her. And after being neglected by her mother all these years, Kelly believes she definitely has form.

Kelly admits to Gary that Laura did look ill enough to be telling the truth, but he reminds her that she’s still been a terrible mum to her and Kelly owes her nothing.

Meanwhile, the teen slips out of the flat, unseen.

Later that week, Kelly fakes illness in front of Gary and Maria to get out of going to school. But Kirk reveals to Gary that he saw her out and about last night.

Remembering what Kelly said about feeling rough, Maria and Gary are terrified she’s back on drugs after making so much progress.

Is Laura telling the truth?

When she eventually arrives home, Gary hits her with his theory that she’s been out to score drugs – but Kelly vehemently denies it.

When Gary gets home on Friday it’s to find Kelly packing her things to leave – but will anybody be able to convince her to stay?

Meanwhile, Nina is also still struggling with the aftermath of her boyfriend Seb’s death. Knowing she’s struggling with her mental health, Roy offers to accompany her to her doctor’s appointment.

She later tells Roy and Asha that the GP has put her on the waiting list to receive counselling, but in the meantime she must try her best to tackle her anxiety alone.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30pm on ITV.
