Coronation Street fans wowed as iconic T4 presenter looks unrecognisable in cameo

Coronation Street fans were shocked after spotting T4 legend Anthony Crank on the cobbles last night (March 4).

The episode saw Abi Franklin relapse and meet up with a drug dealer from her past, played by the former T4 host.

Anthony, 47, looked unrecognisable as he made a cameo appearance in the ITV soap, but many fans were soon left wondering where they had seen him before.

However, viewers were quick to work out the actor’s identity, with one fan saying on social media: “Anthony Crank on Corrie.”

A second said: “Isn’t that Anthony Crank off T4?” while a third added: “The T4 presenter is Abi’s drug dealer.”

Anthony Crank hosted the iconic Channel 4 weekend programme T4 on Sunday mornings from 2002 to 2005, as well as on music channel MTV.

T4 launched the careers of huge household names including Vernon Kaye, June Sarpong, Steve Jones and Miquita Oliver, who were regular Saturday morning faces on programmes including Popworld.

They were later joined by future stars including Rick Edwards and model Alexa Chung.

However, this is not Anthony’s only Coronation Street stint, as he also played a police officer for a number of episodes in 2011.

He has also appeared in rival soap Hollyoaks as Steve in 2010, as well as hit TV series including The Syndicate and Shameless.

Anthony’s latest cobbles cameo featured his character Dean meeting up with Abi Franklin, telling her: “I am available on the end of the phone any time you need me.”

He later gave Abi a bag, with both characters going back to her house to take drugs – signifying that Abi had relapsed.

The episode also saw Abi lie to Toyah Battersby to leave a meeting early, with Toyah questioning the identity of Anthony’s character.

However, Abi soon lied to Toyah, telling her that Dean was her sponsor.

She later explained to Dean: “I had to tell her something.

“I couldn’t exactly tell her I’d walked out of a meeting and went straight to find you. But she bought it.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV at 8pm.
