Coronation Street's Jim McDonald set for return to the cobbles after 'positive talks'

Fiery Jim McDonald is set for a long-term return to Coronation Street.

Charlie Lawson is in talks over a cobbles comeback, despite saying the show had gone downhill.

And the actor, 62, who played killer Jim for 11 years, said producers and screenwriters will discuss his comeback after he held “positive” talks.

The Northern Irishman said: “In six months’ time there might just be a gasp, the cameras cut to the door in the Rovers Return and there’s your man.

“The last time I was on was three years ago, but wokeness has become a pain in the a***, and the question is, ‘Where would Jim McDonald fit in?’

“I’ve spoken to (director) Ian (Bevitt), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) and they think Jim’s return could bring something.

“It’s to be hoped the writers aren’t into all this politically correct nonsense and they can see a place for Jim. I’m definitely up for it.”

This comes after fans spotted Beverley Callard’s ‘secret role’ on Coronation Street, years before she joined the ITV soap as Liz McDonald.

Beverley joined the soap as Liz McDonald in 1989 but has been spotted by viewers in an unearthed clip from 1984 as a character called Julie.

In the scene, Brian and Gail go to the casino to meet with some pals, Gary and Julie.

Beverley looks totally different and was difficult to recognise at first, hence why it has gone unnoticed for all of these years.

A user shared an old video of the show on Reddit and wrote:: “1984 – Gail and Brian go to a casino with Brian’s friends – look at the actress!”

To which another user said: “Is that Bev Callard?”

“It is! Five years before she came in as Liz,” they replied.

Revelling in the news, other fans joined in the discussion, with one adding: “I’m watching the 1990s straight thru and Liz is my favourite character right now! I even have a picture of her on the Lock Screen of my phone.”

Another posted: “Of all the characters who have left the show, Liz is the one I’ve missed the most.”

While a third commented: “Amazing!! I love moments like that.”
