Danny Dyer’s shock departure from EastEnders could save the BBC soap.
The actor, who plays Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter, is leaving later this year.
Although the news has upset some viewers, others say his exit will make them start watching the show again.
They admit they had tuned out because it had turned into “The Mick Carter Show”
Others were not impressed with the star’s acting skills claiming “Danny Dyer plays Danny Dyer in every role he has”.
EastEnders – which has been running for almost 37 years – has been suffering with ratings hitting an all-time low last summer when they dipped to 1.7million.

But Danny’s resignation – after eight years to pursue new projects on other channels – could now result in a boost in viewers.
Some fans rushed to hail the news on social media.
One wrote: “It’s my cue to start watching again”.
Another said: “Danny was the reason show was in crisis, not him leaving.”
A fan added: “It can finally get a breath of fresh air, and escape from being The Mick Carter Show”.

One more wrote: “I stopped watching when Danny Dyer went in it. Can’t take him seriously”.
An insider said: “No one is bigger than EastEnders. The show will go on without him. He is one character.”
Sources claim this won’t mean the end for The Carter family including Linda Henry (mum Shirley), Kellie Bright (wife Linda), Maddy Hill (daughter Nancy) and Rose Ayling-Ellis (daughter Frankie).

An EastEnders spokeswoman said last night: “Danny will be leaving EastEnders when his contract comes to an end later this year.
“Danny has made Mick Carter an iconic character, which we shall always be grateful for, however we won’t be saying goodbye just yet as there’s still quite some time – and plenty of explosive drama for Mick – to come before he departs Walford.”
