It’s been more than three decades since Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels made their debut in the iconic comedy film Dumb and Dumber.
The Hollywood duo starred as best pals Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne as they find themselves on a country road trip to find a briefcase full of ransom money – and get embroiled in a kidnapping plot along the way.
Released in 1994, the movie was a surprise hit, grossing over $240 million dollars at the box office and is now regarded as one of the best comedy movies of the 1990s by many.

It spawned an animated TV series and a sequel released in 2014 which saw the famous pairing reprise their roles.
To celebrate 28 years since the release of Dumb and Dumber, Daily Star has looked at what the cast are up to now.
Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey is now regarded as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood thanks to his mass amount of work in countless classics.
The 60-year-old’s other comedy performances include starring roles in The Mask – released the same year as Dumb and Dumber, the live-action Dr Seuss adaptation How the Grinch stole Christmas (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003), and the 2011 film Mr Poppers Penguins.
The star earned critical acclaim in films like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind and Man On The Moon.
The dad-of-one has had several high-profile relationships which include his Dumb and Dumber co-star Lauren Holly, Bridget Jones star Renee Zellweger, and playboy model Jenny McCarthy.
The Hollywood star was embroiled in a legal battle after he was sued by the mother of his on-off girlfriend Cathronia White who took her own life in 2015.
He was cleared of any role in her death after his lawyer proved she had forged medical records to claim he had given her three sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Carrey has been open about his battle with depression and spoke about his mental health in 2017, saying: “I had that for years, but now, when the rain comes, it rains, but it doesn’t stay. It doesn’t stay long enough to immerse me and drown me anymore.”
In 2021, the actor stepped back from limelight and ventured into book writing, philosophy as well as trying his skills as a painter.
He recently announced that he will likely retire from acting, meaning his role as Dr. Ico ‘Eggman’ Robotnik in Sonic The Hedgehog 2 released earlier this year would be the final film in his decorated career.
Jeff Daniels
Jeff Daniels is known for his impressive versatility as an actor, starring in films like fantasy comedy Pleasantville, psychologicaal drama The Hours to Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic film The Martian.
Movies aren’t his only past time as he has also received rave reviews for his performances in TV series like The Newsroom and The Looming Tower.
His other notable roles include 101 Dalmatians, God of Carnage – for which he received a Tony Awrd nomination as wll as To Kill a Mockingbird.
The 67-year-old has several accolades under his belt, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and nominations for five Screen Actors Guild Awards and Golden Globes.
More recently, the actor narrated 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room and is currently as the executive director of the Chelsea, Michigan Purple Rose Theatre Company, a theater company that he founded himself.
Daniels has been married to his college sweetheart Kathleen Rosemary Treado since 1979 and the pair share three children together.
Lauren Holly
Lauren Holly played the part of Lloyd’s love interest Mary Swanson – a relationship which translated off-screen for a short period of time.
By the time Carrey’s divorce from his first wife was finalised, he embarked on a relationship with his co-star.
His ex-wife Melissa accused Holly of being the third party in their relationship, but the now-59-year-old denied the accusations, claiming they were both single.
The couple got tied the knot in 1996 but their marriage was short-lived and they separated the following year.
Aside from Dumb and Dumber, Holly’s most notable roles include Mel Gibson’s ex-wife in What Women Want, Darian in comedy-drama Beautoful girls and Linda in Oz Perkins’ psychological horror The Blackcoat’s Daughter.
She also starred in several TV shows, with recent stints including Designated Survivor and Tiny Pretty Things.
The actress has been married three times and finalised her divorce with her third husband in 2014.
During her marriage with Canadian-born investment banker Francis Greco, they adopted three children.
Karen Duffy
Karen Duffy played the role of J.P Shay – a professional criminal tasked with chasing Lloyd and Harry across the US.
In 1995, the actress was diagnosed with a rare and incurable disease called neurosarcoidosis that attacks the central nervous system.
The 90s icon revealed that her chronic pain has resulted in her loss of mobility over the years and feels the sensation of numbness in her hands and feet.
She decided to step back from acting after her diagnosis but instead, concentrates on raising awareness about her condition.
The star has leant her voice to a few roles including Sketch in animated series Pepper Ann and Linda Otter in Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.
The 61-year-old has released two novels, Model Patient: My Life As an Incurable Wise-Ass (2000) and Backbone: Living with Chronic Pain without Turning into One (2017) which detail her experience about living with the disease.
She dated George Clooney from 1995 until 1996 and admitted her last true day she was totally pain-free was a day she spent with the Hollywood hunk.
Duffy has been married to John Lambros since 1997 and they share a son named Jack.
Mike Starr
Mike Starr played the role of J.P Shay’s partner in crime, Joe Mentalino in the comedy classic.
Since Dumb and Dumber, the actor has starred in several films including Spike Lee’s Summer Of Sam, mafia movie Kill The Irishman and boxing drama The Bronx Bull .
More recently, he portrayed Al in the miniseries Mr Mercedes and starred in one episode of CBS series East New York.
The same year Dumb and Dumber was released, the actor starred in 11 different movies and TV series.
