Jamie Lawson has said that Ed Sheeran is one of the best bosses you could ask for after becoming the first signing to his Gingerbread Man label back in 2015.
Before signing to Ed’s label, Jamie had already released three albums before his first record on Gingerbread Man, his self-titled album Jamie Lawson charted at Number One.
Over the course of his career, Jamie has played to millions of fans while supporting the likes of Ed, One Direction and Vance Joy, as well as his own headline tours.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, he reflected on the moment he discovered Ed wanted to sign him.
Jamie said: “I was really flattered, it gave me a lot of confidence, in that, Ed had been thinking about starting a label for a while and the fact of him thinking my songs were the best way of launching that meant a lot to me.
“He has a lot of friends, he knows a lot of artists, he could have picked any of them that wasn’t already signed to do it with, they would have been good enough.
“The fact he thought that mine was the best fitting at that point, meant a lot.”
The singer-songwriter continued: “He was very encouraging from the start, he was always there for me to be able to run ideas or songs past.
“He would always leave the music or recordings to me to do my thing with, which you couldn’t ask for more in a record label.
“If you look at his record label and the roster of the records he’s released so far, with mine, Foy, Vance and Maisie Peters, that’s good stock as far as I can tell.”
Jamie is gearing up for An Acoustic Round Tour across the UK next month with Gemma Hayes, Richard Walters and Laura Zocca.
Discussing the tour, he said: “We’re all going to be on stage at the same time, one person will sing a song, tell a story about how the song came about and then it will be passed to the next person who will do the same.
“It’s much more like a songwriters round in Nashville, where they do it a lot, the songwriters of the big hits who aren’t necessarily the artist will sing the song that they wrote, that they’re famous for.
“In this instance, we’ve all written the songs ourselves which makes it a bit different and we’re touring it.”
But he’s not worried about nerves, admitting he’s: “Really excited to be that close to artists that I love and get to watch them play and listen to them from such a close proximity.”
