Jamie Lee Curtis shows support for Ukrainian refugees in subtle Oscars red carpet nod

Jamie Lee Curtis has expressed her support for Ukrainian refugees on the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars.

Jamie,63, attended the star-studded red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday (March 27) afternoon at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The Hollywood actress looked spectacular for the glitzy-do as she donned a high necked, figure-hugging black mesh gown with an extravagant glitter cover.

Expressing her support to refugees fleeing Ukraine following Russia’s invasion, the actress made a statement on the red carpet as she held up a blue ribbon wrapped around her finger that read: “#WithRefugees.”

It comes after Vladimir Putin’s invasion on Ukraine surpasses a month, with Russia’s occupancy entering it’s 34th day.

The Halloween actress completed the elegant look with a pair of diamond cross earrings and wore her light grey hair short and brushed back.

The United Nations Refugee Academy distributed the ribbons to the stars to wear before and during the 94th Academy Awards.

Anadil Hossain, Principal Communications Advisor for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, said: “This year’s Oscar-nominated films include some powerful stories centered on the themes of refugees, displacement, home and belonging – Encanto, Flee, Three Songs for Benazir, Belfast, and Dune – at a time when the world is witnessing the largest refugee crisis since WW2.”

“Artists have been wanting to show their solidarity for Ukraine, and we wanted to ask them to extend this support to the almost 84million people forced to flee. Whenever. Wherever.”

Alongside showing her support for Ukraine, Jamie also paid tribute to the late Hollywood icon Betty White at the glitzy-do.

During an interview on the red carpet, she revealed that she chose to wear an outfit by Stella McCartney in honour of Betty, who died at the age of 99 on December 31.

Jamie expressed that she decided to wear Stella’s design due the the fashion designer’s dedication to animal rights, a cause that was also important to The Golden Girls legend.

Jamie’s lavish red carpet look comes weeks after she took to Instagram to post an unrecognisable picture of one of her character’s for an upcoming blockbuster.

The actress was pictured in character sitting in her cubicle looking completely unimpressed and holding a half-eaten cookie as she wore a tight-fitting and unflattering polo neck and shows off her tummy.

Jamie will play an auditor for her upcoming film Everything All At Once and captioned the snap: “Sucking in my stomach since I was 11.”
